DM 3967: Diabetes Nutrition Therapy

Diabetes Nutrition Therapy is based on the Diabetes Control and Complications Trial (DCCT) conclusion that blood glucose control can prevent or delay the complications of diabetes. You will learn how to apply the current medical nutrition therapy for the person with diabetes mellitus. The course includes diabetes care through the stages of life and the effects of food, exercise and medications.

Part I:Learn about appropriate diabetes treatment goals, monitoring medications, and exercise

  • Format: Online, Mail, CD-ROM
  • Number of Lessons: 3
  • CEUs or Clock Hours: 24 (DMA)
  • Textbooks:
    • American Diabetes Association Complete Guide to Diabetes, Fourth Edition. American Diabetes Association, Inc., Alexandria, Virginia. 22314
    • American Dietetic Association. (2003). Exchange Lists for Meal Planning and The First Step in Diabetes Management. American Diabetes Association.

  • Fees: $110 fee plus cost of textbook, pamphlets and $15 shipping/handling.

Part II: Explore aspects of diabetes management, including complications, life stages, and lifestyle changes. Pre-requisite: Part I

Registration is easy:

  • Print out and complete the application and submit it by mail or fax.

  • Apply in person at Gustafson Hall on the University of North Dakota campus.
