General Information

How Correspondence Study Works

You may enroll in correspondence study at any time, and you then receive a course syllabus outlining reading and writing assignments. You send your lesson to the instructor for comments and grading. The lesson is then returned to you. Grading is satisfactory/incomplete with a 70 percent or better average required to pass. You have one year from your enrollment date to complete a course. If you need more time, a fee of $50 will be charged for one six-month extension.

How to Enroll

Registration is easy:

  • Register online - Choose your format (check the list below for available options): Online.
  • Print out and complete the application and submit it by mail or fax.
  • Call our office at 1-877-450-1841 or (701) 777-4269.
  • Apply in person at Gustafson Hall on the University of North Dakota campus.

Student Requirements

These courses are open to anyone interested in learning about food service, nutrition or other health-care issues. If these courses are taken for DMA clock hours, the completion of an approved dietary managers course is required prior to enrolling. Read each course description to determine which courses require additional textbooks, or require lessons that involve working with clients in a healthcare setting. This may determine which course(s) you choose to take.

Course Tuition and Fees

The course enrollment fee is listed for each course on the application form, plus a postage and handling fee. This includes the syllabus which contains all the assignments for the course (these may be assigned readings from text).

Note: If a textbook is required, it is listed under the course description. Textbooks are ordered from MBS Direct, not from UND, and should be ordered at the same time as your course. Order textbooks according to course numbers.

Refunds

If we receive your application for a refund within 30 days of your enrollment, the fee less $40, less postage, less amounts paid to the instructor for graded lessons, is refunded. No refunds are allowed 30 days from the date of enrollment.

Textbooks

To order textbooks, contact MBS Direct at (Toll Free) 1-800-325-3252, (Fax) 1-800-499-0143, or you can go online at www.direct.mbsbooks.com/undce.htm. Ask for appropriate UND Correspondence Courses course number. Books are NOT ordered or available through the Office of Certificate Programs. You must order your textbooks at the same time as your course in order to get started promptly. Be sure you purchase the text for your course as listed by course # with MBS Direct.
