Meet Our Instructors

Jill Fix, RD
Jill earned a BS in Community Dietetics and completed the Coordinated Program in Dietetics at the University of North Dakota in 1989. She has
worked as a Clinical and Community Dietician in various locations in the Southeastern United States. Jill's experience includes working with the WIC Program and two years of working as a dietician with the U.S. Army.
She grew up in Northwood, ND and has settled with her husband and children in the Twin Cities. She keeps busy raising two children who are now in school full time. Jill enjoys volunteering at her their elementary school as much as possible. She has branched out into fitness and is a Certified Yoga Fit Instructor for Lifetime Fitness in the Twin Cities. |

Julie Helbling, RD
Julie graduated from UND with a Bachelor of Science in Dietetics
She worked for 2 ½ years at a nursing home in Bismarck and also taught Introduction to Nutrition at a junior college in Bismarck.
She's married and has two children, ages 4 and 2. She is currently living in Michigan. |

Tara Larson, LRD
Welcome to the Dietary Managers course. I am Tara Larson, LRD. I live in rural North Dakota. I graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo, ND with a bachelors degree in Dietetics. I work in an acute hospital and clinic setting. I also consult for a long-term care facility and have precepted students in the DM course.
My husband and I have two daughters, who occupy our fun time. I am active in the Greater Grand Forks Dietetic Association and my church. |

Deanne Marselle, MS, RD
Deanne lives in Illinois, and has had extensive nutrition, dietetics and management experience and education. She has a master's degree in management, and has worked as a preceptor for Dietary Manager Students from many states. Deanne also has had several years of experience as a educator at different colleges. |

Terryl Roningen, MS, LRD
Terryl has a BS in dietetics from the University of North Dakota and a MS in Food and Nutrition from North Dakota State University. She has experience in clinical and administrative dietetics and as a Health Facilities Surveyor for the North Dakota Department of Health.
Terryl has been a director of Nutrition Services at a long term care facility in North Dakota, as well as a consultant to long term care facilities. She especially enjoys time spent at home with her two daughters, ages 3 and 3 months. |

Becky Rude, MS, RD, CDM, CFPP
Becky earned her BS as well as her MS in from North Dakota State University in Fargo.
She has 32 years experience in acute care, long-term care, consulting, private practice in wellness and education. She is currently the program manager of the Dietary Managers Correspondence Course at UND. She has served on the DMA Industry Advisory Council, and the Board of Directors.
Becky loves fishing, camping and skiing with her famiy; husband Jerry and four grown children. |

Suzy Thorson, LRD
Suzy obtained her Bachelor's of Science in dietetics from the University of North Dakota.
She has experience as a consultant dietitian for the developmentally disabled and has worked as a nutritionist with the WIC program. She also has experience as a research dietitian with the USDA, Grand Forks Human Nutrition Research Center. She has also served as a preceptor for a variety of students.
Suzy was RYDY for Minnesota in 1999 and District MVP 2000. She currently lis employed at United Tribes Technical College near Bismarck, ND; writing online nutrition courses. She is also employed as a clinical dietitian at Altru Healthsystems in Grand Forks, ND. She enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, playing softball, scrap booking, and gardening. |

Doris Wang, MPH, RD, LD
Doris received her BS in dietetics from North Dakota State University and did her internship at St. Louis University. She earned her Masters in public health nutrition from the University of Minnesota.
She has served as food service director at a 256 bed long-term care facility and as a health facilities surveyor. Currently she is consulting to area nursing homes and group homes and 1 hospital. She teaches courses in community nutrition and life cycle nutrition to diet technician majors at the University of North Dakota, and the University of Minnesota Crookston.
Doris is married and has two grown children. |

Julie Zikmund, MPH, RD
Julie completed an undergraduate degree in Home Economics with an emphasis in nutrition and dietetics at the University of North Dakota. She completed her Master’s Degree in Public Health (MPH) at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Zikmund’s career started as a staff dietitian at the South Dakota Developmental Center located in Redfield, South Dakota. During her time there, she was promoted to Chief Clinical Dietitian and also had food service management responsibilities. She was also employed by the South Dakota Department of Health, where she worked as a Community Health Dietitian for the WIC Program and Children’s Special Health Services. In her employment for the Department of Health, Zikmund most recently served as the Diabetes Control Program Coordinator.
In the 2000-2001 academic year, she joined the faculty at the University of North Dakota, where she teaches and provides clinical supervision for Nutrition Majors in the areas of Food Service Management and Community Nutrition.
She enjoys life in rural North Dakota with her husband and young son, Zach. |
