Participation Requirements
These participation requirements follow the DMA's Training Program Requirements and those of the Division of Continuing Education, University of North Dakota. Your application will be accepted when you meet the following guidelines.
- To be currently employed at least part-time as a food service employee, OR arrange for 150 hours of field experience in a food service department.
- To be a high school graduate or have a GED certificate.
- To be endorsed by the administrator of the facility and the registered dietitian who will act as your preceptor.
- That enrollment may be terminated by UND if satisfactory progress is not made.
- Students are expected to complete their own work with honesty and integrity. Work not exhibiting these qualities can be defined as scholastic dishonesty or copying another student's work. Scholastic dishonesty may result in dismissal from the course
- To allow release of education information to the DMA.
- To allow and financially support a registered dietitian to act as preceptor for a minimum of 50 hours of supervision (for each student during the course).
- To assist in the orientation of the student to the facility.
- To make available records and equipment needed for learning purposes, and allow the preceptor and student to participate in administrative and allied health meetings.
- To review the student's performance and progress with the preceptor and student at the completion of the course.
- Is a registered dietitian with at least one year of full-time experience post-registration. At least six months of this experience must be related to the subject matter of the program.
- Directly supervises each student in the facility for a minimum of 50 direct contact hours during the course and monitors the total 150 hours of required field experience.
- Helps the student plan the clinical and administrative experiences and projects.
- Reports on learning experiences to the University instructor by approving and signing each lesson.
- If the services of a CDM or DTR trainer are available, this person may precept up to 25 hours, with the RD providing precepting for 25 hours, and supervising the entire 50 hours.
