Veterinary Assistant

Prepares students for an exciting new career as a veterinary assistant by teaching you the essential skills of a veterinary assistant.

course description

Veterinary Assisting is a rewarding career in a growing field. As a Veterinary Assistant you can work with animals and be a part of a professional veterinary staff. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the demand for professional veterinary assistants will rise 39% by 2010.

Students in the online Veterinary Assistant program will learn about the care of animals as well as how to recognize signs of illness and disease. The online program also covers interpersonal communication, interaction with clients and their animals, as well as assisting the veterinarian during examinations.


Course Completion

Upon successful completion of this program, students will:

  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of the veterinary assistant.
  • Practice safety measures to prevent injury to animals and their owners, as well as the veterinary team.
  • Communicate in an effective manner with the veterinary team, animal owners, and visitors to the veterinary clinic.
  • Apply ethical and legal standards to issues in the veterinary office.
    Practice professional work habits.
  • Understand proper office and compartment cleaning methods for safety of animals and the veterinary team.
  • Identify the major breeds of various animals.
  • Understand veterinary medical terminology.
  • Perform office procedures related to the administration of the veterinary office.
  • Understand the importance of observation skills.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Understand the basics of responsible animal care.
  • Know how to handle animal specimens correctly and process them accurately.
  • Identify opportunities for employment in the field of veterinary assisting.

How the Online Course Works:

  • Students begin when they wish
  • Students are assigned an instructor for one-on-one assistance
  • Students move at their own pace
  • All materials are included
  • The student work is evaluated; a 70% is required for a certificate
  • Students should complete the course within 90 days but may request an additional 90-day extension
  • Students will receive a certificate from the school upon successful completion

The courses are self-paced. The instructors respond to the student, not the other way around. Each course has a set of lessons and exams.

Tuition for this program is $1,895 per person. All materials included..
