Admission to UND can occur at any time during the year. Courses are semester based.
Deadline for Fall semester admission is August 1st - For Spring Semester December 1st.

Admission of New Freshmen

Students applying for admission to UND are required to take one of the standardized college entrance exams. The American College Test (ACT) or SAT I: Reasoning Test is accepted. Standardized test scores at UND are used for scholarships and advisement, as well as admission criterion. Students 25 years old or older are not required to have test scores. It is recommended that students take the ACT late in their junior year or early in their senior year.

Admission Of Transfer Students

Transfer students from other colleges and universities who have earned fewer than 60 semester hours of credit that are acceptable for full credit toward a bachelor's degree must request their high school records verifying high school graduation as well as official transcripts of their records at each institution attended be sent directly from the schools and colleges to the Office of Admissions.

Official ACT or SAT results are required for students who will not have 24 acceptable transfer credits and are under the age of 25.

Before taking classes beyond the 12 credit hour limit under the non-degree status, students must complete full admission in order to continue taking Distance Engineering Degree Program courses.

In general, non-resident applicants who have graduated from high school prior to 1993 must have graduated in the top half of their high school classes, OR they must have completed 24 semester credits from a regionally accredited college (via on-campus enrollment or correspondence study) with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to gain admission to UND.

All applicants who have graduated from high school in 1993 or later must have completed the core high school requirements listed in the UND Undergraduate Catalog, OR they must have completed 24 semester hours from a regionally accredited college (via on-campus enrollment or correspondence study) with a minimum GPA of 2.0 in order to gain admission to UND.

If the applicant has attended another college or university, transcripts must be sent by the registrar of that college directly to the UND Office of Admissions and Records. If fewer than 60 semester credits are being transferred, high school transcripts must be sent by the high school directly to the UND Office of Admissions. Some colleges require a fee before they can send transcripts.

To ensure adequate time to process the application materials, completed applications should be received by UND at least two months before the start of the first Distance Engineering Degree Program class to be taken.

Within one month of the date of application, the applicant should receive: (1) a letter indicating the admission status, or (2) a post card indicating items that are missing (e.g. official transcripts have not been received from other colleges, etc.). If an applicant does not receive a letter or a post card from UND within a month, the applicant should check with the UND Office of Admissions or call toll free at 1.800.CALL-UND.

If the applicant receives a post card, it is the applicant's responsibility to respond with appropriate action. For example, if transcripts are missing, the applicant should contact the appropriate college to ensure those transcripts are sent to UND. If nothing is heard from UND within another month, the applicant should contact the UND Office of Admissions verifying receipt of information.

After an applicant has been admitted, the applicant will receive an evaluation of transfer credit from the UND Office of Admissions. The evaluation indicates classes that have transferred to UND. About a month later the applicant will receive a status sheet from the SEM indicating the classes (of those accepted by UND) that apply toward the engineering degree. Some courses that are accepted by UND may not satisfy any of the requirements for an engineering degree.

If no classes are taken within three years of application or admission, all files and records are destroyed. If the student completes at least one course at UND (including correspondence and Distance Engineering Degree Program courses) the student's files and records will be permanently retained.

If a Distance Engineering Degree Program student has taken Distance Engineering Degree Program classes and has skipped a semester (summer is an exception), the student should complete a Request for Readmission form and forward it to the Office of Admissions. In addition, a transcript should be requested from the college/university if courses were taken at another institution during that semester the student was not enrolled at UND.

UND Requirements

Usually all courses completed in four year U.S. colleges which are accredited by a regional accrediting association will transfer to UND unless they are remedial or professional courses. The accrediting associations recognized by UND are:

Middle States Association of Colleges & Schools
North Central Association of Colleges & Schools
New England Association of Colleges & Schools
Northwest Association of Colleges & Schools
Southern Association of Colleges & Schools
Western Association of Colleges & Schools

Usually all courses comparable to courses offered at UND from two year U.S. regionally accredited colleges will be accepted (vocational and remedial courses are not accepted).

Usually all courses from four year colleges and universities not in the U.S. which are listed in the World List of Universities (a publication by the International Association of Universities) will transfer to UND. English composition will not transfer from countries in which English is not the native language (an exception to this is the province of Quebec, Canada).

No more than 30 semester credits from correspondence courses can be transferred from other colleges. There is no limit on the number of semester credits of UND Correspondence and Online Study courses.

At least 60 semester credits must be from a four-year college or university. The last 30 semester credits must be from UND.
