Is the Distance Engineering
Degree Program for you?

The
Distance Engineering Degree Program is designed for
those who are adult learners, working full time and
not able to participate in the traditional on-campus
courses. Distance Engineering Degree Program offers
a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering,
civil engineering, electrical engineering or mechanical
engineering. The delivery format is online lectures
and on-campus labs.
Our students have discovered many benefits to earning
a degree through the Distance Engineering Degree
Program.
- Quality
Courses offered through the Distance Engineering Degree Program provide the
same content and rigor as on-campus courses. Students access online versions
of on-campus lectures and also participate in on-campus labs (usually held
in June).
- Convenience & Flexibility
Students can take courses through the Distance Engineering Degree Program
while staying on the job and taking care of responsibilities at home. Choosing
the time and place for reviewing the lectures and completing the assignments
is up to the student.
- Professional
Development
The new knowledge gained in the Distance Engineering Degree Program courses
can help improve the skills students use at their current jobs. In addition,
a capstone design experience is completed at the worksite. (This experience
was initiated through the support of a grant from the Fund for the Improvement
of Post Secondary Education, Department of Education, P116B60229). Capstone
design experiences are directed by a faculty member working closely with
an engineer at the worksite, who serves as the on-site mentor for the employee.
"As the labs encompass
an entire semester of material in a one-week
period, I have to say that this has been the
most challenging part of the degree program
for me, but at the same time the most satisfying."
---Bruce Bushey, Tennant Company |
"Career benefits and opportunities
available once the program is completed far
outweigh short term sacrifices."
---Kerry Smith, 3M |
"My experience with the
program has been nothing but positive...the
program has allowed me to maintain and balance
my family and work responsibilities with my
school work...this education was key to my
promotion."
---Jeffrey Amundson, Minnesota Rubber -

Credit for Work Experience
Students may be able to waive certain introductory
courses by developing experience-based portfolios
in the Engineering 100 class. Engineering 100 is
designed for students with work experience who may
already have extensive knowledge in various areas
of their field of study. (This course was developed
through a grant funded by the National Science Foundation,
DUE-9455466.) Work Experience
