Who Should Pursue a Doctorate in Educational Leadership?
If you want to enhance your leadership abilities
and strengthen your organization, the Doctoral Program
in Educational Leadership is designed for you. UND's
program emphasizes the preparation of upper-level
administrators in P-12 schools, higher education
institutions, or other educational settings. It
also is designed for individuals who have career
goals related to scholarly activity in positions
such as faculty members, researchers, or policy analysts.
Depending on your career goals, you may earn one
of the two most advanced degrees awarded by the University
of North Dakota: the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) or
the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). In general,
individuals interested in P-12 schools pursue the
Ed.D., and individuals interested in higher education,
government, or other educational policy organizations
pursue the Ph.D. During the initial coursework, the
EDL faculty will help you decide which degree is
right for you.
To be accepted to the program, you must have completed
your master's degree from a regionally accredited
institution and have administrative experience at
an educational or governmental institution.
