EFR 506 – Multi-Cultural
Education - 3 credits.
Examination of the pluralistic character of American
society and of the educational responses to this
diversity.
EFR 590 – Foundations
of Bilingual Education - 3 credits.
Students will examine the cultural, historical, political, theoretical, and
some practical foundations of bilingual education in the United States. Case
studies will offer an expanded knowledge of selected aspects of bilingual education.
Engl 417 – Linguistics
- 3 credits.
Through this course you will be able to acquire
fundamental, yet external linguistic knowledge
in the areas of morphology, semantic, syntax,
phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistic, language
change, history of writing systems, and language
acquisition.
Engl 418 – Second
Language Acquisition - 3 credits.
This course focuses on recent second language acquisition (SLA) research findings
from the areas of linguistics, psychology, education, and communication and
on how to relate these finding to language learning and teaching.
T&L 580 – ELL
Practicum - 2 credits.
Appropriate foundational and major area courses,
and consent of the instructor and advisor. Practicum
is study of desirable school practices, observations
in nearby schools, and application of research
findings in solving practical problems.
T&L 590 – ELL
Methods - 2 credits.
This course explores a range of culturally appropriate
methods and strategies for helping english language
learners acquire academic proficiency in listening,
speaking, reading, and writing.
T&L 590 – Assessment
of ELLs - 2 credits.
This course will help students gain a deeper understanding
of the educational assessment of bilingual and
language minority students, along with exploring
some of the issues and controversies surrounding
assessment.
