Textbooks
Order your textbooks early to ensure you have them in time to begin your
course.
Textbooks are available through Barnes and Noble Bookstore on the UND campus
or online at www.whywaitforbooks.com .
The system will prompt you to register, but will also let you check out
as a guest. The benefit of registering is that you will be able to revisit
your order if you need to make a change.
You can use your financial aid charge account at the bookstore during the
fall and spring semesters. To do so, make sure to enter your EMPLID number
in the required field.
Your textbooks can be shipped, or you can choose to pick them up at the
UIND Barnes and Noble campus bookstore prior to the start of classes.
Nurs 510 - Advanced Physiology/Pathophysiology

The educator role of the advanced practice nurse
in a variety of settings and with diverse cultural
and socioeconomic groups is examined.

Curriculum Development- 3 credits

Description: This course focuses
on the curriculum development process. Societal,
professional, and institutional factors as well as
current research findings influencing the curriculum
development process are analyzed. Consideration of
the impact of adult learning principles, workforce
issues, legal-ethical concerns, and diverse student
populations in regard to the curriculum development
process is given.
Nurs 567 - Teaching Strategies - 3 credits

Description: Prerequisites: NURS
566 or consent of instructor. The course explores
theory-based teaching strategies designed to develop
cognitive abilities, psychomotor skills, and affective
qualities in learners from diverse backgrounds. Strategies
and methods for the teaching of nursing content in
a variety of settings are utilized. The use of technological
tools in nursing education is evaluated.
Nurs 590 - Directed Studies: APRN-PMH Roles/Clinical
Reasoning - 2 credits

Description: The focus of this
course is role dimensions and clinical reasoning
inherent in clinical nursing specialization. This
clinical practicum includes clinical practice, experiential
seminar/conferencing and supervision in the context
of the defined roles for CNS/NP (practitioner, case
manager, educator, researcher/quality assurance officer,
leader/manager, consultant, PMH liaison/consultant,
mentor and advocate). It will emphasize the use of
diagnostic and classification tools (e.g. DSM IV
TR, Depression scales such as the Beck or Hamilton
) in determining the client's disorder. Students
are expected to utilize knowledge related to assessment,
neurophysiology, and medication management within
the context of the client's culture, and the framework
of evidence based practice. Within the nursing process,
the APRN-PMH student will demonstrate the functional
role of care provider by assessing, diagnosing, and
prescribing/managing medications. Diverse relevant
theories and policy development will be integrated.
