Applications for the non-BSW Program are no longer being accepted for course work beginning January 2009.

The admission deadline for the Advanced Generalist MSW is November 15, 2008 for courses work beginning May 2009.

The Department of Social Work will be reviewing additional admission dates for new cohorts due to increased interest in the online program. Distance Program is designed for individuals with or without
a Bachelor's in Social Work (BSW).

What Will I Learn in the MSW Program?

The University of North Dakota's Master of Social Work (MSW) program prepares you to serve as an advanced generalist social worker through online courses and condensed on-campus experiences. As a graduate of the program, you will have advanced practice knowledge, values and skills consistent with the highest ideals of the profession for:

  • empowering vulnerable, oppressed, disadvantaged, and rural populations;
  • maximizing opportunities for every individual to realize his or her highest potential; and
  • promoting respect, awareness and appreciation for culture and social justice at every level of society.

A Master of Social Work degree from UND offers you flexibility in social work employment, and gives you additional expertise and training for career advancement. You will learn how to provide the advanced social services needed by individuals and families in your community, as well as develop the skills needed for supervisory, management and program development positions. With an MSW you have the added credentials to seek upper-level/administrative or direct practice opportunities in private practice, hospitals, or in city, county, state and federal government agencies, including:
