Textbooks

Order your textbooks early to ensure you have them in time to begin your course.

Textbooks are available through Barnes and Noble Bookstore on the UND campus or online at www.whywaitforbooks.com .

The system will prompt you to register, but will also let you check out as a guest. The benefit of registering is that you will be able to revisit your order if you need to make a change.

You can use your financial aid charge account at the bookstore during the fall and spring semesters. To do so, make sure to enter your EMPLID number in the required field.

Your textbooks can be shipped, or you can choose to pick them up at the UIND Barnes and Noble campus bookstore prior to the start of classes.

 


Nurs 500 - Theories and Concepts in Nursing- 3 credits

Description: The focus of this core course is on analysis of current nursing and related theories and concepts which guide clinical practice, curriculum development, research, and nursing administration.


Nurs 507 - Anesthesia Seminar & Clinical Practicum - 4 credits

Description: Prerequisite: Admission to Nurse Anesthesia Specialization. A study of the basic principles of anesthesia practice, related physical, chemical and pharmacological concepts and an introduction to pathophysiological principles applied to problems encountered in the surgical/anesthesia setting. Analysis, integration, and utilization of research to improve practice is emphasized. Includes four hours of clinical lab experience weekly.


Nurs 510 - Advanced Physiology/Pathophysiology I - 3 credits

Description: Prerequisite: Admission to graduate study.
Normal physiologic functions associated with cellular structure and environment. Physiologic and pathophysiologic functions of the human body and its organ systems, both separately and integrated in whole activities.


Nurs 526 - Ethical, Legal, and Health Policy Issues - 3 credits

Description: This course emphasizes health policy issues within the context of legal and ethical concepts. Students will examine and debate health policies in current practice, thus broadening their ability to analyze, implement, and evaluate health policy issues.


Nurs 534 - Specialization in Family Nurse Practitioner I: Management of Health Conditions in Primary Care - 3 credits

Description: Prerequisite: N523. Clinical decision-making skills are developed in the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic health conditions throughout the lifespan. Health promotion, health protection, disease prevention, health maintenance, and restoration are emphasized.


Nurs 535 - Drug Therapy I for Advanced Nursing Practice: Common Health Conditions - 2 credits

Description: Pre- or corequisite: N510. Pharmacological agents utilized to treatcommon acute and chronic health problems are explored in depth. The course focus is on advanced nurse practice roles related to prescription, pharmacological and therapeutic applications of the drugs.


Nurs 540 - APMH Promotion Prevention - 6 credits

Description: Prerequisites or Corequisites: N500, 526, 530, 542, 555, and 6 credit hours in psychotherapeutic modalities. This course focuses on advanced assessment, client-nurse relationship, and selected therapeutic interventions. Client care is focused on prevention of illness and promotion of health in selected populations. Application of theory and research to advanced practice roles and policy development is examined throughout the course.


Nurs 552 - Role Development of the CNS - 2 credits

Description: Prerequisite: NURS 530. This course emphasizes professional role development of the nurse practitioner. Students will compare and contrast the various roles of the nurse practitioner and evaluate those roles as they relate to the student's individual planned area of practice.

Description: Prerequisites: NURS 566, 567, 568, or consent of instructor.
Principles of assessment, measurement, and evaluation are analyzed in this course as they relate to nursing education. The processes of assessing student learning, teaching and program outcomes are explored. Topics relevant to the evaluation of individual student learning such as test development, evaluation of critical thinking, and clinical evaluation are included. The processes of faculty and program evaluation are examined.


Nurs 571 - Theoretical Development in Nursing - 3 credits

Description: Prerequisite: Admission to the doctoral program or consent of instructor. This course provides students with the knowledge and skills to begin developing theory that contributes to the body of nursing science. Students will study concept development strategies foundational to theory construction and examine and critique ways in which nursing theories have been developed. Concept and theory development strategies are applied by examining phenomena relevant to nursing science and the student's interests.


Nurs 574 - Quantitative Nursing Methods - 3 credits

Description: Prerequisites: EFR 516 or Avit 503 or consent of instructor. The underlying purpose of this course is to provide learning experiences which give advanced practice nurses the opportunity to acquire knowledge and the skills necessary to apply quantitative research methods in nursing. The course features presentations on creative and substantial applications of established methodologies and effective research techniques and strategies within the quantitative paradigm.

Description: This course focuses on use of scientific evidence and nursing/healthcare research in providing high quality health care and improving nursing practice. The goal of this course is to prepare graduate nurses who are proficient at evaluation of published research, identification of problems within the educational, administrative, or clinical setting that require further study, and application and dissemination of research to change practice/ education/policy and improve outcomes.


Nurs 597 - Advanced Clinical Practicum - 1-12 credits

Description: Prerequisite: Completion of first year Anesthesia Nursing or Family Nurse Practitioner coursework. This clinical practicum course provides the student with the opportunity to obtain extended clinical experience in the area of specialization. The course focuses on the integration of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice.
