PRESENT
UNDERSTANDING THE EXPERIENCE:
A STATEWIDE AND REGIONAL HIGHER EDUCATION DIVERSITY CONFERENCE
Purpose: To educate communities to be responsive to the needs of all constituencies by encouraging training in the areas of campus and community human relations. The Diversity Conference presents opportunities for members of the North Dakota higher education institutions, institutions within the region, and the public to gather and learn about issues that impact the lives and learning of students, faculty and staff, and the broader community.
Understanding the Experience is the opportunity to learn about issues, through the experience of others, that challenge our current understanding of the world around us, including race, ethnicity, religion and culture, life styles, and learning.
Understanding the Experience should help all participants gain a broader appreciation and commitment to diversity in our communities and learning environments. Through understanding, we commit ourselves to respecting our differences and promoting our support for others in a learning environment.
Speakers and panelists will provide topics that deal with current challenges in education that impact all of us because of perceptions of economic status, class, sexual orientation, race and ethnic backgrounds, religion and culture, learning styles, images in society, and much more.
