GOVERNOR APPOINTS SHERI HAUGEN-HOFFART TO HEALTH COUNCIL
This past week our own Sheri Haugen-Hoffart received a letter from Governor John Hoeven appointing her to the North Dakota Mental Health Planning Council. CONGRATULATIONS Sheri!! She will meet with this Council two days each quarter.

The North Dakota Mental Health Planning Council (NDMHPC) members are appointed by the Governor of North Dakota. The Council consists of 27 members including two ex-officio members. Membership includes representatives of the principle State agencies with respect to mental health, education, vocational rehabilitation, criminal justice, housing, and social services; public and private entities concerned with the need, planning, operation, funding, and use of mental health services and related support services; adult consumers of mental health services and their families; and families of children with emotional disturbances who have been impacted by mental health needs.

Council's Objective: to receive federal funds designated for mental health services and to monitor, review, and evaluate the allocation and adequacy of mental health services in the state. The N.D. Mental Health Planning Council has a focus and vision on mental health wellness and recovery that is consumer and family driven.

Again, Congratulations Sheri!

OLLI NEWS
During this past winter semester for OLLI, we had a class called "Create Fiction and Ignite Your Muse." The instructor was UND's Dr. Elly Williams. She had never taught this particular population before and wasn't prepared for the excellent stories her students wrote. By the end of the course she was so impressed that she submitted a proposal to the Forum Planning Committee of the First Annual Community-University Forum to be held in Grand Forks April 18-19. Proposal reviewers were pleased to see the topic of her proposal, it was accepted and scheduled on the program. Her proposal was for her writing students to read the stories they had written in her class. The four stories were each very different and inspired by their own life experiences. It was a joy to listen to all of them, and by watching Elly's face, she couldn't have been more proud. See photos below.

STUDIO ONE FEATURES THIS WEEK

This is the final live telecast for Spring 2008. Tune in this fall for more news, weather, sports, and entertainment from Studio One.

BOOK BINDING
Learn why one man judges a book by its cover on this week’s edition of Studio One.

When people think of a good book they often times refer to the story inside; but for some, how the book is physically put together is more important. Although book binding is a declining trade, one business owner finds himself rebinding the most published book in the world.

HANDS ON LEARNING FAIR
Also on the show this week, young children and families enjoyed a day of fun at one of the upper Midwest’s largest festivals celebrating early learning. The 17th Annual Hands on Learning Fair in Grand Forks, N.D. teaches children new skills and gives parents a chance to bring these activities home. Watch how events like these are a great way for families to spend time together.

Studio One is an award-winning news and information program produced at the University of North Dakota Television Center. The program airs live on UND Channel 3 on Thursdays at 5 p.m. Re-broadcasts can be seen at 7 a.m., noon, 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. daily and on Saturdays at 10 a.m. Prairie Public Television airs Studio One on Saturday at 6 a.m. The program can also be seen by viewers in Fargo, Bismarck/Mandan and Minot, N.D.; Minneapolis, Minn.; Denver, Colo.; and Winnipeg, Manitoba.

Above & Beyond the Call of Duty!!

KUDO'S TO A GREAT TEAM!
Wow! If you haven't gone to the NEW PDE Web site, you really need to go and browse! Go to: http://educators.und.edu or just click on "Take an Educators Workshop" from the index on the Continuing Ed home page!! The PDE team is excited about this great new marketing tool, and extends our thanks to the many people that worked to get the site up and launched on Wednesday, April 16!

Thanks to: Jennifer Swangler, for the many hours of writing content and her organizational skills of putting the web pages together and having them make sense and easily maneuverable; Chad Gratton and Nathan Clough, who have the patience of saints in dealing with unanticipated changes and their expertise in working with the Web site design and the technical requirements; Denis MacLeod, for his amazing editing skills which provide consistency and accuracy of content and message throughout the website; Odella Fuqua, for orchestrating the new PDE registration processes with the changeover to the new TouchNet system; and Kathy Schill and Marsy Schroeder for their input to the content, layout, and creativity in the overall appearance and feel of the finished site! My, oh, my...what talent we have right here in our midst, and how appreciative we are! You're all awesome!

Kim Jones, Laurie Robinson, Lynnette Evenson, and Robin Cook

Is there someone in your program area who has gone beyond the call of duty recently? Please tell us about it by submitting it to Doodles next week!

JUST FOR FUN

I ENJOYED THE BON JOVI CONCERT
I went with my cousin and her 6 friends who traveled from Montana to go to the Bon Jovi concert. We had 10th row floor seats! My cousin is a nurse and one of the doctors she works for got the tickets for his nurses. He is Bon Jovi’s first cousin, and that’s how come the seats were so good :) They called and asked me Monday if I would like to come along because one of the nurses could not make it. It was a great concert; the best I have ever gone too!!
