December 20, 2007

I think our DCE award winners need some more recognition:

Dedication - Lynnette Evenson
Performance - Meghan Flaagan
Development - Kim Jones, Kathy Williams
Excel - Monte Koshel
Outstanding - Corey Quirk

Wow. What a surprise. I’m very honored and humbled to have received the Outstanding Employee award. I was actually speechless, which is pretty rare. Since day one, it has been a privilege to work with such great and dedicated people everyday. Since I joined the division and started participating in the Holiday Workshop, I thought the Outstanding Employee award was pretty special, and now I get to consider myself a past recipient. Pretty darn cool. Thank you.
Hope everyone has a safe and Happy Holiday Season.

Corey Quirk

Happy Holidays to Everyone! I would like to thank the Division of Continuing Education for the fine plaque and write-up that was presented to me at the holiday workshop. Like they say, if you like your job it isn’t work. And I truly do love what I do here at the University. It is an honor to work with such a fine group of people. The support here is wonderful. I am excited about the future of DCE and look forward to the changes coming our way. Once again, thank you to all who had a part in this.

Lynnette Evenson

CASUAL DRESS DAYS

Dean Riedy has approved PAG's request to allow employees to dress in casual wear for the workdays between December 24 and 28. So come to work in comfort for a few days during the holidays. We also understand that you may have meetings, interviews, etc., that dictate more professional attire. If you have any questions on what is appropriate in your department, please contact your supervisor.

GRAMMAR GOALS

“We Three Kings of Orient Are. . . .”

Yes, indeed, they were. When the time came to return home, the Magi had to orient (literally to cause to face or point east) themselves. We seldom will orient someone in this sense (unless a DCE supervisor in the Skalicky Tech Incubator is giving a new employee the direction to Gustafson Hall). Enrollment services offers orientation sessions to new students; its counselors orient students to campus life, and they would be wise to advise students that the word orient is the choice for American English and the word orientate is the choice of our friends to the east across the pond who use British English.

Denis MacLeod

Thank you to Julie Vatnsdal for this week’s grammar goal.

WASTE BUSTERS
Here is an article from UND about recycling: Recycling

Do you have a contribution to Doodles for an idea that highlights a good way to save energy/resources, reduce waste, increase recycling, and/or gave kudos to one of our employees who was doing something toward these efforts whether at work or at home? Submit it for next week's Doodles.

DO YOU HAPPEN TO HAVE . . .

Do you happen to have some pots and pans, a card table and chairs or any kind of table (like end tables), a desk, a book shelf, or some standing lamps that you were thinking of giving away? If so, maybe you'd consider giving them to Aly Adachi whose roommate moved out and has left her a bit short on these items. Give her a call at 7-4269. (Aly knows I'm doing this.)

DECORATIONS
Someone, we can't remember who, thought it would be neat if everyone (who wanted to) submitted pictures of their holiday decorations. It would be fun to see how other people decorate - or to submit some of their traditions that have been handed down from generation to generation.
Connie Hodgson

THE KRENELKA FIREPLACE
The Krenelka fireplace this year features old time stockings that were made by Brent and his siblings and have been in the Krenelka family for many years. Also new greens and a few of Lynette's Santa collection grace the top of the mantel. Of course, my creative neighbor, Sandy Gregory, helped (a lot) with the mantel greens.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.

Lynette Krenelka
