About the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI)
'

WHAT IS OLLI?
OLLI@UND is a vibrant learning community of adults 50 years and better who want to experience cultural and social growth through learning, and sharing ideas, opinions, and talents. Through non-credit courses, students benefit from stimulating lectures and discussions in an informal and relaxed environment; so learning becomes life enhancing without the burden of grades, tests, or prerequisites.

The University of North Dakota is committed to continuing education and lifelong learning, and UND offers the Osher Institute in North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota as a way to make lifelong learning easily accessible to you and your peers.

OLLI is funded in part by the Bernard Osher Foundation, which was founded in 1977 by Bernard Osher, a respected businessman and community leader in the San Francisco Bay area. The philanthropic organization seeks to improve the quality of life for mature residents through post-secondary student scholarships, as well as art, cultural, and educational grants. At present, the Foundation is supporting nearly 120 Osher Lifelong Learning Institutes on university and college campuses in 48 states.

HOW DOES OLLI WORK?
Participation cannot be overstated. The OLLI community depends on active participation of its members to succeed. As membership grows, participants will provide input to a leadership council that will advise Continuing Education staff in determining which courses and programs to offer. This means that you, the members, will design your own learning activities.

WHO CAN JOIN OLLI?
OLLI@UND is a membership organization. Whether you are working, retired, or semi-retired, you can be a part of OLLI. The only requirement is that you are an adult with an interest in continuing educational experiences and will support the program through participation and payment of a $25 membership fee. Annual membership entitles a member first access to all courses offered, meaning you receive the course newsletter before the general public, thereby giving you first choice of the courses offered.
