Clinical Supervision for the Novice Supervisor

Andi Johnson, LAC, LADC

ShareHouse Director of Operations

ShareHouse, Inc.

Fargo, ND

For years the Girl/Boy Scouts have led the way in preparing our youth in understanding key values in society.  Their motto:  Be Prepared has helped them think ahead to future possibilities, both good and bad.  This simple lesson, when applied to the new supervisor, helps to maintain adherence to the values we hold dear in our profession and becomes the blueprint for the guiding principles in supervising the addiction counselor trainee.

Nike and Supervision:  Misperceptions and Understandings

Andi Johnson, LAC, LADC

ShareHouse Director of Operations

ShareHouse, Inc.

Fargo, ND

To do or not to do, that is the question.  Nike has promoted not only its running shoes but better health for society with the catch phrase "Just do it!"  If exercise is not your "cup of tea", you may find many excuses not to do it.  The same is true for clinical supervision.  Without the proper training and resources, doing clinical supervision becomes complicated.  This training hopes to provide you with the "running shoes" needed to "Just do it!"

Paradigms in the field of addiction counseling have faced many changes across the systems of prevention, treatment, and recovery. This presentation seeks to present some primary paradigmatic changes in hopes of introducing participants to the need for interconnections in and amongst existing systems across the state of North Dakota. As Prochaska and Di Clementes so eloquently stated, "Change is not easy." With this in mind we ask each system and each participant to examine their current stage of change in this paradigmatic evolution.
